FoundersCard is a membership organization for founders, CEOs, presidents, and other leading members of the entrepreneurial community. Membership provides access to private networking events, an online networking community, and a benefits program (with four main categories: travel (general), lifestyle, business, and hotels). Membership is by invitation/application and has an annual membership fee of $495 plus a one-time initiation fee.
To become a member, one must receive an invitation from an existing member and submit an application for membership. FoundersCard does not disclose specific criteria for membership qualification outside of a deep commitment to the entrepreneurial community, but does report an approval rate of 70% of those invited by a current member.
Members have access to a global benefits program, an online network to connect with members, and private FoundersCard networking events. FoundersCard hosts frequent networking events which are structured as casual cocktail receptions open exclusively to members. Events are often hosted at partner hotel properties and aligned with major third party events such as SXSW and CES. FoundersCard also offers travel, lifestyle, and business benefits geared specifically toward entrepreneurs including Apple, Virgin Atlantic, and AT&T Wireless, as well as offers from innovative companies founded by fellow members.
Member benefits are accessed via a private site. Each member also receives a unique membership card to be utilized as proof of membership, required to gain access to events and preferred partner opportunities.
As of June 2012, FoundersCard has more than 7,000 members worldwide, with many members located in venture capital-focused cities including New York, Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, and Boston. Many members are based in the United States, with a growing number of international members in line with a major international benefit push in 2012.
FoundersCard was developed by serial entrepreneur Eric Kuhn, with the goal of providing rewarding opportunities to fellow entrepreneurs that were typically reserved for executives at public companies, as well as a community to network and offer support. FoundersCard began accepting members in January 2010 and is headquartered in New York City.
